The New Beginning

The New Beginning - My Toastmaster Life

Toastmaster International is a place where the leaders and speakers are made. I am a Jehovah’s Witness. We have a training School call Theocratic Ministry School. So I am been giving small bible talks since I am 8 years of age. It’s a very good training, but it was only within the circle of Jehovah’s Witness.  I want to come out and improve my skills and want to become popular. Danajaya Hettiarachchi wasn’t there and Toastmasters were not a popular thing at that time. I even didn’t know about it. I saw an advertisement on a Newspaper. I call the number a deep voice came from other side and was very friendly. I was like please take me to your club and He was like please come, pleading me. He was distinguished toastmaster Anura. So it fit in and I went, it was a special meeting. We had training and I did a speech and received three large chocolates for my speech. That encouraged me more.

But I couldn’t continue the journey. I had deep financial trouble. There were days I didn’t have money to get a meal. But fortunately things changed. DTM Anura also helps during this time by paying my annual fee for the toastmasters international. Yet I was in deep trouble. So I didn’t continue it. Anura never give up on me. Now I am back to normal.

Again I join this K and J champions club in Ja-ela. Our club is a small club with many enthusiastic people. This is the difference when you go into a community club. If you visit a cooperate club you always find management, HR or IT people. In a community club you can find different personalities.

Our Priya is a working mother yet she preside the club earnestly giving her best to the club. First meeting was awesome.  I participated for Table topics session. Table topics master brings out things in her hand bang as topics. I selected the Internet Dongle. Depreciating equipment once played a vital role in Internet communication. For those who don’t know about table topics, it’s a segment where the table topics master (conductor of the particular segment) provides topics and members have to voluntarily give speeches about the give topics. Speeches are limited to 2 mins.

On the second day, actually on the second week (We keep our meetings on the 2nd and 4th week of every month) I was the table master for the day. Table Master is like the meeting conductor of the day. I enjoyed it very much. It’s like going back to school.

Then on 19th August 2018, I went to judges training. First we had how to conduct effective meetings.

Next Friday I have my Ice breaker speech. I will tell you more when I break Ice.

Few designing tips for Toastmasters VPPR

Somehow we all are became Vice Presidents of Public Relations. Now we have to deliver. I would like to share some basic ideas which I have learnt for the past few weeks.  Resolution Matter  Many of us know what resolution means. When we come to design we have different resolutions for different material.(Resolution means No of pixels or dots you have for an inch)  If you design for Monitor or Online content its 72  If you design for Digital printing its 100  if you design for offset printing its 300 What is the Color combination ?  Different media show their colors using different methods.   Monitors show colors using red, green and blue.  Most digital and offset printers use CMYK ( Cyan Magenta Yellow Black)  so when you use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or Coral draw remember to use right color scheme.  if you use cmyk to a online post it doesn't show correct brightness in the color. CMYK ...

Fear of Public Speaking, why and how to overcome

You know how they say public speaking is one of the biggest fears people have? It even has a fancy name - Glossophobia! I mean, who hasn't felt nervous about giving a speech or speaking up in a meeting? Being in the center of attention can be quite daunting. But why is this fear so common, and what can we do to get over it? That's what we're going to dive into in this article. Psychological perspective of fear of public speaking  Well, from a psychological point of view, that fear is often linked to anxiety disorders, like social anxiety disorder. Basically, it's when someone is really scared of social situations, including speaking in public. One idea is that the fear of public speaking comes from worrying about being judged or evaluated by others. Basically, folks who are scared of it might be afraid of saying something silly or making a mistake in front of others, which could lead to people thinking negatively about them or even rejecting them. Another theory...
